The number of fatalities from the freight aircraft that caught fire and went down has reached 13, as confirmed by official reports.
Mayor's Statement
“On my way to the Workers’ vigil, I learned of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a result of the plane crash,” expressed the municipal leader in a social media post. “My prayers are with the loved ones, associates and colleagues of all who were killed in this week’s disaster. We will endure this as one.”
Casualties Identified
An announcement from the carrier listed the pilots aboard the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our sympathies are extended to every employee who has been affected and all in our community area – helping you and making sure you get the support and resources you need is our focus,” the organization’s statement stated.
Investigation Updates
Federal authorities disclosed that the freight aircraft’s left wing caught fire and an engine fell off shortly after takeoff from the aviation hub, causing the jet to crash and burst into a fireball.
The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is investigating the jet’s maintenance history, which was in Texas for maintenance a period prior to the incident.
Aircraft information showed the aircraft was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to 18 October.
“We are aware that this jet was present in the facility,” stated an investigator on later, not giving a precise date range. “We will review every piece of repairs that was completed, from the San Antonio visit, all the way to the time of the trip.”
Findings of Key Evidence
The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were recovered, and the motor was discovered on the airfield.
The devices – called flight recorders – were constructed to withstand collision damage and extreme temperatures from fires, and they appeared to be undamaged when discovered within the wreckage. Investigators plan on reviewing information from the black boxes.
Aircraft’s final flight details showed an elevation of 475 feet and a speed of that speed before the impact.
Service Record
Per aviation authority documents dated that date, a crack on a structural piece in the fuel container needed repairs.
Singapore-based ST Engineering, which said it provides aircraft servicing for the company’s jet and manages a repair facility in that city, chose not to comment, but said it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities contacted it.
Services Resume
At the same time, UPS Worldport activities restarted last night with its Next Day Air also known as nighttime procedure, representative Jim Mayer stated. Each of the three landing strips at the aviation hub were additionally reopened.
The distribution hub in this location is the organization’s biggest. The facility hires more than twenty thousand people in the region, manages 300 trips each day and sorts more than 400,000 parcels an hour.
Public Reaction
A gathering was conducted on the evening of that date by the area labor union, which acts for workers at the aviation hub, the organization’s primary air cargo hub.
Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, began the memorial with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the rough moment of the crash two days earlier.
“This tragedy was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the mayor addressed the assembly of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to bid farewell to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
